Engine failure blamed in chopper crash

CATALINA ISLAND, CA Three people were killed and three others injured when the chopper crashed at Two Harbors on the opposite end of the island from Avalon.

The Eurochopter AS-350 chopper had just left from Long Beach for a sightseeing trip when it went down at about 9:30 a.m. on the west end of the island near the Banning House Lodge.

The helicopter was operated by Long Beach-based Island Express.

One of the company's pilots was killed instantly along with a man and a woman. Their names have not yet been released.
