Northern California soldier killed in Iraq

A Merced County man is the latest soldier from Northern California die in Iraq.

Twenty-five-year old sergeant Frank Gasper died when his vehicle hit a mine Sunday in Najaf. Gasper was a Special Forces radio operator based out of Fort Carson, Colorado.

It was his third tour of duty in Iraq.

Sergeant Gasper graduated from Golden Valley High School in Merced.

Governor Schwarzenegger ordered flags flown at half staff in his memory at the State Capitol.
