Toddler killed by hit and run driver

NAPA, CA

Napa police received a report of a child missing from the area of Old Sonoma Road and Oran Court shortly before 5:30 a.m. A family member told police that the girl may have wandered away from her home in the early morning hours, police reported.

As police were responding to the scene, a Napa County Juvenile Justice Center employee walking to work on westbound Old Sonoma Road was approached by a woman who told her that she had seen a small child in the roadway, police reported.

The juvenile hall employee looked along the road and found the toddler lying unconscious near the curb across from the juvenile detention facility.

The employee carried the child across the street and began CPR. Paramedics arrived and also attempted to revive the child before taking her by ambulance to the Queen of the Valley Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

Napa police were investigating the incident as a hit-and-run and called the department's accident reconstruction team to the scene to diagram the area where the girl was found.

Police are also asking that anyone who may have seen the toddler or witnessed the vehicle hitting her contact Detective Don Winegar at (707) 258-7879.
