NorCal Special Olympics ceremony in Berkeley

This evening, about 900 Special Olympics athletes from Northern California will hold the opening ceremony for the summer games on the University of California, Berkeley campus.

They will participate in a 7:30 p.m. march to light the Caldron in the Haas Pavilion, which is a free event that is open to the public. Live music will be provided by Collin Raye and David Garibaldi.

The athletes represent 32 counties in Northern California and will start the games on Saturday at 9 a.m.

They will compete aquatics, bocce, tennis, track and field and volleyball through Sunday.
