A 57-year-old woman was knocked to the ground in Salinas in what appears to be a drive-by purse snatching.

The woman was in Alvin Square in front of 1447 N. Main St. at about 2:51 p.m. when a newer model charcoal gray Toyota Sequoia with four males inside drove by on her left, police reported.

As the sport utility vehicle passed the woman, the right front passenger leaned out the window and yanked the woman's purse off her left arm as the driver accelerated.

The woman was knocked to the ground. She was taken to a local hospital and treated for injuries sustained in the fall.

The SUV was last seen fleeing westbound on West Alvin drive, police reported.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the Salinas police watch commander's office at (831) 758-7250 or the crime tip line at (831) 775-4222.
