Officer-involved shooting in San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA

According to Officer Enrique Garcia, the officers present during the incident were all part of a Santa Clara County enforcement team that focuses on apprehending violent or narcotic offenders.

Just before 11 a.m. officers were dispatched to the Courtyard Marriott at 1727 Technology Drive after receiving information of a suspect located there, Garcia said.

When officers arrived they found the suspect and attempted to make contact before he tried to escape. When the man fled, a least one officer fired at him, said Garcia.

The suspect received non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital, he said.

Around 3:45 p.m., investigators began interviewing the officers and witnesses at the scene, said Garcia. He could not confirm how many officers were involved or how many of them shot at the suspect.

Garcia explained that the enforcement team is made up of officers from every police department in the county and it is too early in the investigation to know which city's police departments had officers involved in the shooting.

The San Jose police homicide unit will be in charge of the criminal investigation, as it always does for officer-involved shooting, said Garcia.

It will also be overseen by the District Attorney's office and monitored by the police departments of the officers present.
