The fight over San Francisco's handgun ban in public housing is getting contentious.

The National Rifle Association filed a lawsuit Friday to end the city's gun ban placed on anyone who lives in public housing.

The suit followed a historic U.S. Supreme Court ruling that overturned a Washington D.C. ban for violating the Constitution.

San Francisco's City Attorney Dennis Herrera claimed the NRA's latest lawsuit is frivolous on Monday.

"Their factually slipshod complaint makes plain that this case is a publicity stunt and a frivolous waste of judicial time," Herrera said.

Herrera vowed to seek sanctions against the NRA.
