The announcement comes more than two years after the Navy said demolition would be the most cost-effective way to clear the site of asbestos and other toxins.
The Navy reversed its decision because of the public outcry from advocates who want it turned into a museum.
Moffett Field was commissioned in 1933 as a naval air station and Hangar One housed the 785-foot USS Macon.
