San Jose police this morning arrested a man wanted on an outstanding warrant for attempted murder after a 6.5-hour standoff outside an apartment, police said.

Officers were called around midnight Thursday to the 2300 block of Pauline Drive on reports that a man with an outstanding warrant for attempted murder was in an apartment building, police Officer Enrique Garcia said.

Residents of nearby apartments were evacuated, and police remained outside the apartment through the night, Garcia said.

The man was in the apartment alone and believed to be armed, a police dispatcher said.

Police entered the apartment and took the suspect into custody around 6:30 a.m., the dispatcher said.

Officers had not cleared the scene immediately following the arrest, and residents stayed out of their homes, according to police.
