Hayward-based Mervyns says it is closing 26 stores, including four in the Bay Area. They are in Antioch, Livermore, Fairfield, and Napa.
The stores will close by early November. As many as 3,100 employees may lose their jobs.
Mervyns filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy last month.
