It is day 56 of the budget stand-off and now the California Assembly will have to stay home and work on the overdue budget instead of attending the Democratic National Convention.

Assembly Speaker Karen Bass has decided to make lawmakers work every day this week, except Tuesday. Bass had previously given lawmakers Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday off so state Democrats could be in Denver.

In addition to the budget, lawmakers have dozens of other bills that need to be voted on before the legislative session ends.
