The woman awoke that Wednesday morning around 1:45 a.m. to find a man in his 20s in her studio apartment, police Capt. Dan DeSmidt said.
The man fled after the woman woke up, and she immediately called the campus Department of Public Safety, which notified Belmont police.
The woman and a small group of students and staff were living on the campus at 1500 Ralston Ave. in Belmont. The incident occurred prior to the start of the fall semester, DeSmidt said.
Investigators were unable to find any indication that the man forced entry into the apartment, and nothing appeared to have been stolen, DeSmidt said. There was also no indication that the victim, who was uninjured, knew the man.
Police released a sketch of the suspect on Aug. 27 and asked university students and community members for assistance.
"We're hoping that somebody on campus or in the community can help us to identify this person," he said.
No similar crimes have been reported since the Aug. 13 incident, but student safety is still a concern, DeSmidt said.
DeSmidt reminded residents to lock doors and windows, even with the warm weather.
The suspect is described as a light-skinned man in his 20s standing about 5 feet 6 inches tall with a thin build and a patch of light-colored hair on his chin. He was wearing a blue or black hooded pullover sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.
DeSmidt said today that police have received numerous tips reporting sightings of men matching the suspect description, but so far no one has been arrested.
Police ask anyone with information on the intruder to come forward.
"We are absolutely encouraging people to call," DeSmidt said today.
