Police are still investigating why a San Jose man drove his sport utility vehicle into a city park Sunday morning, striking three pedestrians and killing one of them.

The driver was identified by police today as 45-year-old Armando Suazo Ochoa.

San Jose resident Aproniano Siruno, 71, was hit around 8:45 a.m. in Hillview Park at Berona and Alfred ways when Ochoa drove his white Chevrolet Suburban into the park, San Jose police Office Enrique Garcia said.

Siruno was pronounced dead at the scene and two other men were taken to a local hospital, Garcia said.

One victim was listed in critical condition and the other was said to be stable.

The three victims were apparently taking an early morning walk together when the car struck them, Officer Jermaine Thomas said.

Detectives are working to determine whether the act was intentional, Thomas said.

Ochoa fled the park but was arrested about an hour later in another part of the city, Garcia said.
