The 16-year-old victim was shot twice in a field, near a shopping center in Antioch, on Lone Tree Way.
Witnesses say he tried to run from the gunman, but collapsed near the crime scene. Police say they have no leads and no motive.
The victim was airlifted to the John Muir Medical Center there's no word on his condition.
