Army Sergeant Timothy Jacobsen died when a combat helicopter crashed under enemy fire near Hue, South Vietnam in 1971.
Jacobsen's body could not be recovered at the time, but his remains were located two years ago and they have just been identified.
His family has been notified and Jacobsen will be buried with full military honors in his hometown of Ferndale, on the north coast in Humboldt County.
