1 killed in Mission pedestrian accident

SAN FRANCISCO

The San Francisco medical examiner's office has identified Gaspar Caballero-Sanchez as the San Francisco man who was fatally struck.

The driver, 35-year-old Jason Yantas, also of San Francisco, has been arrested on charges of vehicular manslaughter and driving on a revoked or suspended license, San Francisco police Sgt. Neville Gittens said.

Caballero-Sanchez was hit around 8:10 a.m. on Mission Street between 21st and 22nd streets when Yantas speeding Jaguar convertible jumped the curb, according to Gittens.

The car knocked down four parking meters and hit Caballero-Sanchez before striking a tree and coming to rest, Gittens said.

Caballero-Sanchez was taken to San Francisco General Hospital where he was died around 8:45 a.m.

Yantas was taken to the hospital with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Gittens said Yantas remained at the hospital this afternoon and was "booked in absentia."

The crash remains under investigation.
