An Atherton philanthropist has agreed to give $75 million to the Stanford University Medical School for stem cell research.

Lorry Lokey is the founder of Business Wire, a service that distributes press releases and regulatory filings.

Lokey will be the largest contributor to a building scheduled to break ground later this month, the world's largest stem cell research center. Lokey says a stem cell breakthrough could prove to be as significant a development as the computer chip.
