Burglar poses as water dept. employee

SOUTH SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Police received a report of burglary at about 9:35 a.m. in which a suspect posed as a city employee and informed the victim of complaints of dirty water.

The victim, who is visually impaired, walked the suspect into the kitchen, where he checked the water from the kitchen faucet before convincing the victim to show him the backyard area, police said.

The victim's nephew arrived at the residence and rang the doorbell while the suspect was outside, and when the victim went to answer the door, the suspect entered the victim's bedroom and checked a nightstand drawer for valuables, according to police.

No items of value are missing, and the suspect then fled the residence through the backyard gate, police said. He is described as about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a medium to heavy build and wearing some sort of uniform with a nametag.
