Police received a report of a shooting on 16th Street just north of Chanslor Avenue at about 7:30 a.m., Sgt. Darren Monahan said.
When police arrived, they found a man identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Tracy Hudson suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to Kaiser Permanente's Richmond hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police are continuing to investigate the killing, but so far no witnesses have come forward, Monahan said.
Hudson was the city's 24th homicide victim this year.
