Man hit by car on Highway 101 identified

SAN JOSE, CA The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office today identified a man who was killed when he was struck by a car on U.S. Highway 101 in San Jose Thursday evening as 39-year-old Jose Perez Rivera. The collision occurred around 6 p.m. as Rivera tried to cross the highway on foot from the center divide to the right shoulder north of Story Road, according to the California Highway Patrol. Rivera crossed into the path of an oncoming 2004 BMW and was struck, the CHP reported. He died at the scene. The medical examiner's office was unable to determine where Rivera had last resided. An investigation into the collision is continuing, and anyone with information is asked to call the CHP San Jose office at (408) 467-5400.
