California gets a passing grade when it comes to the affordability of a college education while other states fail according to the Center for Public Policy and Higher Education.

It reported Wednesday that 49 states failed its college affordability study, a statistical increase from 43 last year.

Only California received a passing grade even though it only earned a "C."

California was cited for its relatively inexpensive community colleges.
