Firefighters responded to 501 Forest Ave. around 10:30 p.m., isolated the fire to one bedroom and contained it within about 25 minutes, Battalion Chief Niles Broussard said.
About 150 people were evacuated from the building.
Broussard said it caused about $300,000 in damage but that was mostly from the water.
No injuries were reported and he did not know how many people were displaced.
