The Alameda County Sheriff's Office will announce a new cold case program on Tuesday that uses the county's inmates to help solve homicides.

Family members affected by 13 homicide cases, dating back as far as 1983, are expected to attend the announcement, which will be made during a news conference in Dublin.

Sheriff's Sgt. J.D. Nelson will show the program in progress with inmates at the Santa Rita Jail. About 4,420 county inmates will be involved in the program.
