The renewal of a 24-year tradition. Volunteers began the process Tuesday of handing out more than 250 holiday food baskets in Berkeley.

Each contains a turkey, fresh produce, and enough canned and packaged food to feed eight people.

Money for the food was raised by police officers from the City of Berkeley, the University of California and the Berkeley Boosters Association.

The officers raised almost $12,000 in their annual bike ride from Berkeley to South Lake Tahoe this year.
