The collision was reported at about 1:25 a.m. just south of San Tomas Expressway on Highway 101, CHP Officer Aaron Quistad said.
A large truck was hit from behind by another vehicle, according to Quistad, who said that a person died in the vehicle that collided with the truck.
The far right lane of the highway was blocked for about three hours while authorities investigated the incident and cleaned up debris from the crash, Quistad said.
A Sig-alert was issued at about 1:35 a.m. and was canceled at about 4:40 a.m. when the lane was reopened, according to the CHP.
