About Genevieve Piturro Founder, Pajama Program
For many underprivileged children, nighttime often means a hard end to an equally hard day. Many go to bed wearing their street clothes…or wearing nothing at all. That's where Genevieve Piturro and the Pajama Program step in. Genevieve founded the charity in 2001 to help create a warm and nurturing environment for youngsters living under difficult circumstances. The Pajama Program, a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit organization, targets children in need ranging in age from newborn to 17, many who are without parents and/or permanent homes. It is through her dedication and commitment that thousands of pajamas and books have been distributed throughout the country to these children. Now with 74 chapters across America, Pajama Program has been able to provide more than 310,000 new pajamas and 110,000 new books to children in need. Thanks to Genevieve's appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show (which aired in August 2008, and April and December, 2007) thousands more volunteers are helping to make sure more children stay warm at night and practice their reading with a bedtime story book. In addition to her appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Genevieve has appeared on TODAY on NBC, ABC, CNN, Fox & Friends, CBS Early Show, The Wall Street Journal, O- The Oprah Magazine, American Baby, Parenting Magazine and hundreds of local media outlets. Genevieve's finely honed business sense has contributed to the Pajama Program's success. Her entrepreneurial spirit was fueled by her extensive background in marketing, first in the television syndication arena for many years and then for an event planning company with offices in London and NYC. Genevieve started Genevieve Unlimited in 1993 to service entertainment companies in their efforts to gain a competitive edge in the world of promotion. Clients included ABC-TV, Bravo Cable Network, Sport Magazine and Broadway and London productions of "Crazy For You" and "Grease." Genevieve also has an extensive background in marketing, radio broadcasting and television public relations. But it is her work on behalf of society's most vulnerable citizens that provides her with the greatest personal satisfaction. A Yonkers, New York native, Genevieve received a Batchelor's of Art Degree from New York City's Fordham University. She resides in Irvington, N.Y. with her husband, Demo DiMartile.
