The airport has reduced its arrival rate, which is affecting turnaround and means delays will likely increase throughout the day, duty manager Jeff Littlefield said.

At about 9 a.m. some flights were behind schedule by about 30 minutes, Littlefield said.

Duty manager John Ginty explained that only about 30 planes are being allowed to land each hour.

"The arrival rate typically on a nice sunny day, when two aircraft are landing simultaneously, is about 60 aircraft an hour," he said.

He anticipated that by about 11 a.m., both arriving and departing flights would be running behind schedule by about an hour, and that the delays could increase.

Passengers are advised to check their flight status before heading to the airport.

The weather was not causing any delays at Oakland or Mineta San Jose international airports Monday morning.
