A group had gathered in front of Nola restaurant and bar at 535 Ramona St., which was hosting a Mardi Gras party, police Agent Dan Ryan said.

Four men began pestering a few women standing in front of the bar just before 2 a.m. and a 31-year-old Burlingame man intervened.

The man told the group to leave the women alone, and they then attacked him, Ryan said.

They kicked and punched the victim, knocking him to the ground, breaking his nose and rendering him briefly unconscious, Ryan said. The four men, who had been drinking, then fled the area and have not been arrested.

Ryan said he is not sure where the suspects had been drinking that night.
