Boy shot at birthday party

RICHMOND, CA

Officers responding a reported shooting in the 3100 block of Ohio Avenue at about 12:30 a.m. learned that a critically wounded teenager was taken from a home to the Kaiser Medical Foundation Campus with a single gunshot to the upper torso, a police watch commander said.

Investigators were told that the boy had stepped outside a relative's birthday party and was standing in front of the house when he was shot. Relatives drove him to the hospital in critical condition, police said.

There was no apparent motive for the shooting, and no information regarding a suspect was available this morning.
