The robbery took place at about 6:15 a.m. at a home at 218 Kenneth Drive, according to Sgt. Shon Leonetti.

The woman was sleeping in her bed when a suspect broke into the home through a window in the bedroom and demanded money, Leonetti said.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of money, a brief argument ensued during which the woman was stabbed in the back with a sharp object, according to Leonetti, who said the woman received a superficial wound that is not believed to be life threatening.

The victim was able to run out a back door and used an airhorn to alert neighbors, who called 911.

Authorities searched for the suspect, who fled from the home on foot in an unknown direction, Leonetti said.

The suspect is described as a white man in his 40s or 50s who had gray hair. He was wearing plaid pajama pants and either a gray or green sweatshirt. He wore a white towel that covered his face.

Authorities are continuing to check the area for witnesses and clues that might lead to an arrest. Anyone with information about the suspect should call the sheriff's dispatch center at (831) 471-1121 or the anonymous tip line at (831) 454-2847.
