Lisa Larges has been a candidate for the Presbyterian ministry since 1986.

Her San Francisco church has approved her candidacy twice, but she's been blocked both times because of her sexual orientation.

The ruling is the latest twist in a landmark case that may ultimately define whether gays and lesbians can have a role in church leadership.

In a written statement, Larges says the ruling has deeply personal and painful repercussions for openly lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people wanting to serve in the Presbyterian Church.
