County supervisors are now reviewing a draft of new rules written by county legal advisors. Medical marijuana shops would be required to obtain an operating license.
They would be prohibited from operating near schools or youth centers. And they would be required to have security systems including alarms and window bars.
The regulation comes 18 months after the district attorney's office notified federal drug agents that pot clubs were operating illegally in San Mateo.
