The Help America Vote Act funds were made available for the county's Accessibility Program, which was developed with input from members of the local disability community, according to Chief Elections Officer Warren Slocum.

"We took their wishlist, added projects that the Election staff had determined as key priorities and put the two together," Slocum said.

According to the elections office, the plan will provide better access to voting and voter information, better training for poll workers on the needs of disabled voters, and will allow the resurveying of each of the 250 polling locations throughout the county to make them more accessible.
