Water rates to rise for Sonoma County

Agencies that depend on the Russian River plan to double their rates.

Officials say the increase is needed to compensate for a loss in revenue, stemming from a state mandated cut in water use.

The state ordered the cut because of low water levels in Lake Mendocino.

There's concern that there may not be enough water in the lake to make it to next, putting fish and wildlife in danger.
