About 4,000 people volunteered to help with things like planting seeds, weeding, removing graffiti, picking up litter and cleaning up parks. Some volunteers helped clear weeds and plant new vegetation at Damon Slough.

Mayor Ron Dellums says Earth Day is a national call-to-action, so he is encouraging residents to roll up their sleeves and get involved in beautifying their neighborhoods.

The official Earth Day is this Wednesday, April 22nd.
