The trouble started around 11:30 Sunday morning when neigbors say at least three shots were fired at a home at Hugh Street and Taylor Avenue. Around 3:30 p.m. the Solano County Sheriff's Department moved its SWAT team into place around the home where the suspect was believed to be holed up and armed with a rifle and shotgun.
Police say when they first arrived there was a man down in the backyard. The unidentified man was dead by the time police were able to get to him.
Family members standing in a crowd nearby told ABC 7 they think the victim is a family member and friend.
"We know. I seen him. I went up on the hill and I seen him," said Vallejo resident Mary Simmons.
Around 4:00 p.m. police left a phone on the doorstep of the home and a police negotiator tried unsuccessfully to make contact with the suspect. Around 5:00 p.m. the sound of a flash bang exploding was heard as SWAT members swarmed the home.
"We have found no additional people inside the residence. Again, there was one adult male who was detained, who was outside of it," said Solano County Sheriff's Department spokesman Daryl Snedeker. "At this point it's very early in the investigation and that's where we'll start now, is the investigation side of it. The person on the outside of the residence was deceased when we did get to him."
Another man was also detained after police saw him walking away from the home shortly after they arrived. He was questioned by police. The victim and the two suspects have not been identified.
Police initially thought there were more people in the house but were not sure if they are being held against their will or not.
Members of the Solano County SWAT team, the Vallejo Police Department and CHP all responded to the scene.
