Recession leads to lighter traffic

Caltrans and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission say traffic congestion in the Bay Area dropped 12 percent in 2008.

A new report just released Wednesday says the Bay Area job market and highway improvements has led to the lightest traffic conditions since 2003.

Westbound Interstate 80 from Powell Street to the Bay Bridge toll plaza continues to be the number one, most congested spot in the Bay Area - and will likely keep its ranking for years to come.
