The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office today identified the man as Ronald Ceglio.

Ceglio was crossing South Bascom Avenue at Pamlar Avenue when he was hit around 9:50 p.m.

He was walking east and had successfully crossed the southbound lanes when he was struck by a northbound driver, police spokesman Officer Jose Garcia said.

The driver, a 23-year-old man, pulled over immediately afterward, Garcia said.

Ceglio was taken to a hospital where he later died. Garcia said Ceglio lived in San Jose but may have been a transient.

There is no indication the driver was under the influence of alcohol, and police are still investigating who was at fault, Garcia said.
