The collision happened at about 3:45 p.m. at Leigh Avenue and Southwest Expressway, Sgt. Ronnie Lopez said. The victim, who appeared to be a teenager, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary reports indicate the victim was riding a Razor-type scooter and went under a crossing arm at Leigh Avenue before being struck by a light rail vehicle heading south on Southwest Expressway, Lopez said.

There was no immediate report of injuries to any of the 22 passengers on the light rail vehicle, Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority spokeswoman Jennie Loft said.

San Jose police are continuing to investigate the collision and the victim's identity.
