Man drowns in Arroyo Seco River

An 18-year-old man drowned Sunday afternoon in a swimming hole in the Arroyo Seco River in unincorporated Monterey County, according to the Monterey County Sheriff's Office.

Gonzalo Martinez Banderas was at the Miller's Lodge swimming hole in the river, and had entered the water to save his younger siblings, according to the sheriff's office.

Banderas went into deeper water and drowned despite resuscitative efforts by the South Monterey County Fire Department, according to the sheriff's office.
