Lawmakers blast BART in a letter

Fifteen Bay Area state legislators have sent a letter blasting the Bay Area Rapid Transit system for how it is handling contract negotiations with its employee unions.

The lawmakers are concerned the district's bargaining position could trigger a strike.

BART and its unions have been locked in marathon talks, but the sides remain far apart on some key issues.

The unions are asking for a three percent pay increase while BART wants them to hold their wages and force workers to contribute to their benefits.
