The kelp has shown up in several marinas, including South Beach Harbor near Pier 40, where divers worked to remove the seaweed Thursday morning.

The kelp is originally from Japan, and can grow up to an inch a day.

This is especially alarming to people who own boats and harbor operators, because the seaweed can cling to and damage hulls, pier pilings and docks.
