Neiman Marcus signatures collected

Backers of an initiative to allow a Neiman Marcus store to open in Downtown Walnut Creek have collected more than 10,000 signatures.

The initiative, backed by the Broadway Plaza shopping center, needs at least 63 hundred "valid" signatures, to qualify for a special election.

The city council has already approved plans for the store, but there are two counter referendums aimed at blocking the project.

They are backed by the owner of Sunvalley Mall in Concord.
