VA investigates mistreatments of eye patients

The Department of Veterans Affairs says it is investigating allegations of mistreatment of hundreds of eye patients at its Palo Alto facility.

The VA is looking into whether improper care caused two-dozen patients to experience severe eye loss, several patients went blind.

Nearly 400 cases are under review, officials want to know whether the optometry department failed to follow VA policy that requires it to consult with medical doctors on glaucoma cases.

The chief of optometry is on administrative leave while the investigation is on-going.
