The ban, adopted by the city council, is still set to go into effect on September 18th.
The San Jose Mercury News reports that the city would leave the ban intact, and Palo Alto will not be required to pay any settlement money to the "Save the Plastic Bag Coalition." But the city agreed to conduct an environmental impact report before expanding the ban to drug stores and other retailers.
