There has been a breakthrough in Alzheimer's research; doctors have discovered how changes in a specific gene can lead to early onset of the disease.

The research was published in the journal Nature.

Doctors say changes in a specific gene can influence communication between brain cells, which can disrupt learning and memory.

The study's authors believe these problems may lead to the dementia seen in many patients suffering from early onset of Alzheimer's.
