Would-be robber turns to car jacking

San Francisco police are looking for a would-be bank robber who turned to carjacking when the heist did not work out.

Investigators say 27-year-old David Wehrer tried unsuccessfully to rob a Bank of America on West Portal around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Police say Wehrer ran away and carjacked the driver of red 2006 Honda accord at gunpoint and drove off.

The car's license plate number is 5TCV308.
