Nearly 30 million Americans, including 18 percent of women, get the painful headaches.

Researchers claim plastic surgery, similar to a forehead lift, might decrease or even cure the migraines.

The surgery was performed on 49 patients and just over half reported their migraines went away.

"What we do is remove the frowning muscles that are compressing the nerves and releasing substances that cause the pain for the migraine patients,"

Some patients also get migraine relief from Botox injections, but the surgery offers a permanent solution.

The study is described in the journal "Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery."
