Twitter could be useful following disasters

Text messaging, Twitter and other social networking sites could help families stay in touch after a disaster, according to a national safety group.

The Safe American Foundation has launched a national campaign to train families about alternate ways to stay in touch if traditional communications methods fail.

The group expects more than 200,000 people to take part in drills that will run from Sept. 11 through October.

Some companies will even offer special training sessions.
