The man's name has not yet been released.

Dichette said a Coast Guard motorboat found the man, who had been reported missing at about 4:30 p.m., in the water about four miles west of the Golden Gate Bridge at 6:18 p.m.

"He had no vitals by the time he was brought on board," Dichette said.

Dichette said the body was taken to Coast Guard Station Golden Gate in Sausalito and transferred to the Marin County coroner's office.

A pedestrian walking on the Golden Gate Bridge reported seeing a surfboard and a sail in the water east of the bridge near Crissy Field at about 4:30 p.m., according to Dichette. The Coast Guard then launched a helicopter and boat for the search.

A description provided by a friend of the windsurfer at Crissy Field matched the description of the body recovered, Dichette said.
